Matsumura Sobe founded Shuri Te. His Meikyo Kaidan was Itotsu Anko who taught the Founder of Okinawa Shorin-ryu Karate Do, Chibana Choshin. Chibana Choshin taught Nakazato Shugoro who beginning teaching Frank Hargrove in 1964.
Frank Hargrove taught eighty per cent of all Shorinkan Instructors teaching in North America. Frank Hargrove built the Shorinkan Association in the Unites States from a seven dojo group 1. Tadashi Yamashita, 2. Jiro Shiroma, 3. Frank Hargrove, 4. Sid Campbell, 5. Robert Herten, 6. Noel Smith and 7. Eddie Bethea into a 110 dojo members association with branches in Canada, Mexico, Bemuda and South America before Pat Haley joined the association. Doug Perry studied directly under Frank Hargrove for eight years making 6th Dan under Frank Hargrove before he went to Okinawa to be promoted to 7th Dan. Nakazato Sensei was not Perry's teacher before he showed up in Okinawa asking to be promoted to 7th Dan. He made 8th and 9th Dan the same self serving way
